Chris Hartweg
My title is Director, Client Service
But really I’m like a motor sports pit crew chief. Our success is built on teamwork and preparing and succeeding together. Everyone has their roles and there is certainly a lot of preparation and strategy. Then sometimes you can get a little tight in the turns and you have to make tweaks on the fly. That just makes victory that much more sweet!
- I got into this business because experiential marketing allows a competition of disciplines – one-on-one consumer interactions, integrating advertising, PR and sponsorships. I admire how MW approaches its work and its clients and how Scott and Julie do business.
- I think the smartest thing anyone said about marketing is “this ain’t rocket science.” You need to remember to have fun and - while you take your job seriously - don’t take yourself too seriously.
- The road taught me you have to be adaptable and trust your decisions when everything is changing around you.
- The strangest experience I’ve had so far is always changing – just when you’ve seen the strangest thing (or person) it gets trumped. That’s part of what makes the job so great.
- I grew up in Glen Ellyn, IL. It taught me you need to create your own adventures. And to appreciate what your parents work so hard to provide you.
- Whenever I use a really bad pun, that’s my father coming through.
- I will never ask a client, or a colleague to do my work.
- If my life has a soundtrack, it’s quite an eclectic rock’n’roll mix - Wilco, Pearl Jam, Jack Johnson, G. Love, Yo La Tengo, My Morning Jacket, Sufjan Stevens, Iron & Wine, Calexico, Glen Hansard/The Frames, U2, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Ryan Adams, Arcade Fire, Blues Traveler, Decemberists…you get the idea.
- I went to school at U of Illinois and studied Speech Comm., because I enjoyed learning to better communicate via writing and speaking, plus I worked in radio and thought I was going to be a sportscaster when I grew up.
- If forced to give up Chicago winters, I’d probably move to Costa Rica. So beautiful with great people. ¡Pura vida!
- My favorite movie is Napoleon Dynamite. It teaches me to learn special skills and make a dang quesadilla when I’m hungry.
- The way I like to work is as part of a smart team where everyone gets a chance to shine and grow.
- I refuse to give up when it doesn’t work right the first time. You can always find a way to make it work.
- A big, hairy spider terrifies me.
- What I bring to each assignment is the confidence we can do it better than anybody, with the humility to know that you learn a lot of new things every day to make it better.
