Julie Guida
My title is Managing Partner
But really I'm the person who has the honor of hiring and working with an incredibly talented, dedicated staff.
- My First Job In Marketing was in my junior year of college. I left school to become a newspaper reporter and “write the truth”. I supplemented my income by working in the circulation/promotions department during the day. I designed an integrated promotion for the newspaper’s 20th Anniversary celebration that involved Advertising, News Editorial, Circulation and the entire staff. It was a great experience for me. My boss took all of the credit and I returned to school to get my degree in advertising/marketing!!!
- When I began at Marketing Werks I was 29 and invincible. I thought the worst thing that would happen to me is I would fail miserably, move home and live with my loving parents. The bottom didn’t look too bad so all I had to do was focus on going up.
- I got into this business because I believe it is a very effective means of reaching a targeted group of consumers. It doesn’t hurt that it’s a lot of fun and I get to work on a lot of great brands with a lot of great people!
- I think the smartest thing anyone said about marketing is,”if you can’t be big everywhere, be big somewhere and make an impact with that audience”.
- The strangest experience I’ve had so far is I’ve had so far is getting into a freight elevator with a 1500-pound brahma bull for a rodeo press stunt and entering the newly opened Bloomingdale’s China Shop on Michigan Avenue.
- Whenever I multi task, that’s my mother coming through. Growing up, I watched my mother juggle the responsibilities of teaching school and taking care of a family with a husband and 4 kids. She always had multiple irons in the fire.
- I will always ask for someone to be honest and truthful with me.
- When I see the growth and sophistication in the industry, I am proud of how far it has come and energized by where it can still go.
- Being “cursed” with a middle class work ethic that was instilled into my very being at an early age actually helped me prepare for this. I am compulsive about doing the job and following through until it is done right.
- When I’m not doing this I love to spend time with my family, vacationing, improve my photography skills, swimming, skiing, boating and generally living life to the fullest.
- If forced to give up Chicago winters, I’d probably check off a few of those places on my bucket list: the Egyptian Pyramids, an African safari, the jungles of Costa Rica, Alaska, the Falklands and Easter Island, to name a few.
- My favorite movie is Night Shift. It’s about two entrepreneurs working the night shift out of a mortuary. They find a need and develop a means to fill it in a way that is better than their competitors. American enterprise at a very basic level.
- I’m good at this because I am a good listener and it has been my experience people will tell you what they are looking for if you just listen.
