Julie Schweigert
My title is Director, Client Service
But really I'm like that stage performer who is keeping all of the plates balanced and spinning on sticks.
- I got into this business after a college friend rolled on to my university campus driving that shiny, famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. I knew my dream job was out there and it wasn’t long before I was awarded the “sweet” position of Chocolate Ambassador on the Hershey’s Kissmobile with Marketing Werks in 1999! I caught the travel bug and the rest is history.
- The road taught me that sometimes the best things happen while you are lost. And trips are always more memorable when you talk to the locals for the inside scoop. If you head to Grand Canyon, I know of a really great place for a slice of homemade pie outside Williams, AZ. I have also been to the Spam and Popeye museums. Yes, they exist.
- One of my strangest work experiences was orchestrating elaborate surprise wedding proposals for strangers, which were then shown on the Today Show. From the slopes of Steamboat to a Broadway stage, I’m your expert if you’re looking to pop the question with some pizzazz.
- I grew up about 12 miles from the Marketing Werks office. It taught me that “Midwestern values” do exist, and there is nowhere like Sweet Home Chicago. It’s really a special place, from the food, to the history, to the lakefront to the neighborhoods.
- Waitressing actually helped me prepare for this, because every day is managed chaos. You’re running around multi-tasking and timing everything for the perfect delivery while keeping a smile on your face. You develop a certain skill for remembering who ordered what, who likes what, how to anticipate needs. Overall, you have to stay calm under pressure and immediately solve unexpected issues to keep the customer happy and ensure they want to come back again.
- If my life has a soundtrack, it’s playing as a Ringback Tone on my Verizon Wireless cell phone. If you don’t know what this means you need to call me and get with it!
- When I’m not doing this I’m usually still headed to the airport on a trip somewhere - to relax! When I’m at home I’m checking out Chicago’s newest restaurants (pizza or sushi are the faves), or taking my dog to the beach.
- I went to school at Miami University and studied Speech Communication and Journalism. I envisioned myself working for National Geographic as a photojournalist, until internships in community affairs and PR changed my path.
- If forced to give up Chicago winters, I’d be swimming with the sea turtles in Hawaii on my friend’s ranch.
- The best place I’ve ever visited is too hard to pick. Backpacking through Europe, celebrating Oktoberfest in Munich, eating mussels in Brussels and road tripping to Mount Rushmore are some highlights. And that doesn’t cover the islands.
- What I bring to each assignment are 10 years of marketing and PR experience across multiple industries, along with determination, confidence and dependability.
- I believe this business is all about results and relationships. What makes Marketing Werks special is our family atmosphere and commitment to knowing and understanding our clients. Our clients become a part of our extended family - this is evident by the long-term relationships we have. (And we never forget a birthday!)
- I’m good at this because I like problem solving and am motivated by the opportunity to tackle new challenges every day.
